Alongside twin brother Toby, Couchman graduated through the Dragons pathways system having begun his rugby league career with the Thirroul Butchers.

A Bulli High School product, Couchman was rewarded an Australian Schoolboys nod in 2021 whilst earning an Under 18s Country Origin nod the same year.

He made his Knock-On Effect NSW Cup debut off the bench in early-2023 cementing himself as a key member of the pack as the season progressed.

Couchman made his NRL debut in Round 23, 2023 against the Eels at CommBank Stadium having been listed as the replacement player on several previous occasions.

He and his twin brother shared the NRL field for the first time against the Rabbitohs in Round 24 and, alongside Mathew and Max Feagai, became the first two sets of twins to ever appear in the same first grade game.

Couchman made another half-dozen NRL appearances in 2024 having pieced together a phenomenal Knock-On Effect NSW Cup campaign in which he averaged 161 run metres and made 470 total tackles at over 96 per cent efficiency.

2025 proved a difficult year for the 22-year-old with an ACL rupture in the season opener ruling him out for the entirety of the season.

The club’s 2025 Ken Stephen Medal nominee thanks to his tireless community work, Couchman is under contract with the Dragons until at least the end of the 2027 season.
